Top 10 U.S. Cities to live in .



10. San Luis Obispo-Paso Robles, Calif.

Gallup has announced its annual list of cities with the highest Wellbeing Index in the United States. Their formula uses six sub-indexes -- life evaluation, emotional health, work environment, physical health, healthy behaviors, and access to basic necessities -- to determine the 10 cities whose citizens are doing the best. Checking in at No. 10 with a score of 71.2 is the coastal California town of San Luis Obispo.





9. Washington, D.C.
Coming in at No. 9 is the Washington, DC area, with a Wellbeing Index of 71.3 -- just 0.1 points ahead of San Luis Obispo.





8. Ann Arbor, Mich.

Ann Arbor, home to the University of Michigan, checks in at No. 8 on this year's list with a Wellbeing Index of 71.4.







7- Honolulu, Hawaii

Tied for sixth place is a town where its citizens are, not surprisingly, pretty happy. Hawaii's capital of Honolulu checks in with a Wellbeing Index of 71.5.






6-Barnstable Town, Mass.
Out on Cape Cod, the oceanside town of Barnstable, Mass. tied Honolulu on this year's Wellbeing list with a composite score of 71.5.

5. Fort Collins-Loveland, Colo.



Colorado State University calls Fort Collins home, the No. 5 city on this year's Gallup Wellbeing Index, with a composite score of 71.6.

Located on the eastern side of Utah Lake, this area ranked above all but three American towns with a Wellbeing Index of 71.7.





3. Burlington-South Burlington, Vt.

The Burlington area ranked near the top of this year's Gallup list with a composite score of 72.4, suggesting the town's residents are among the most physically and mentally healthy in the nation.

2. Boulder, Colo.

At the base of the Rockies, this town had the second-highest composite score -- 72.7. If you're looking for a place to move, Gallup suggests this is as good a destination as any in the United States -- except one!





1-Lincoln, Neb.

Congrats, Lincoln! Gallup believes, according to their formula, that your town is the best in the nation for well-being. Their index turned out a score of 72.8 for the southeastern Nebraska town.
