7. Bell X-2 “Starbuster”- 3 Mach. The jet was made up of stainless steel and copper nickel alloy to reduce the air friction and the thermal heating effect upon the performance of the jet. Due to its magnificent speed and higher sophistication, this plane deserves to be rated 5th among the top ten fastest jets of the world.

6. XB-70 Valkyrie – 3.1 Mach. The XB-70A Valkyrie was built by the North American Aviation for the U.S Air Force. It is the heavy capacity air jet that can carry nuclear arsenal at the speed of 2000 mph. It is one of the fastest planes of the world and fastest bombers of the US military. US Army is proud to have it and enemies of United States are threatened by this fastest jet.

4. SR-71 Blackbird – 3.5 Mach. A strategic aircraft with unique characteristics and high speed. This jet had long served the US military. Since, the flying speed is marvelous and peculiar so the plan had to go on retirement from the services in early 1998.

3. X-15 – 6.72 Mach. It is sure a speed demon and can claim faster than the blink of eye. It has an average. Rocket powered aircraft; X-15 is the fastest manned aircraft. It is using hydrogen peroxide to attain the higher speed by pumping it out from its tail. It gets second rank in the list of fastest jet aircraft in the world.

2. X-43A - 9.8 Mach, three times more than the speed of Blackbird. This jet is hydrogen based and consumes it to gain the maximum speed with accuracy and sophistication. The more peculiar feature is that it doesn’t need oxygen to keep its engine going one. This is the fastest and highly sophisticated aircraft of the world.

1. Space Shuttle - 20 Mach. NASA’s space shuttle is the fastest aircraft in the world. It began setting records with its first launch on April 12, 1981 and continued to set high marks of achievement and endurance through 30 years of missions. Starting with Columbia and continuing with Challenger, Discovery, Atlantis and Endeavour, the spacecraft has carried people into orbit repeatedly, launched, recovered and repaired satellites, conducted cutting-edge research and built the largest structure in space, the International Space Station. The final space shuttle mission, STS-135, ended July 21, 2011 when Atlantis rolled to a stop at its home port, NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
