Crushing Cars with a Giant Robot Hand
The enormous LEGO model is 11 feet tall, 43 feet long and has a wingspan measuring 44 feet. It contains a whopping 5,335,200 LEGO bricks. An international team that included engineers and mechanics spent more than a year planning, designing, and then constructing the X-Wing so it would be sturdy enough for transport from LEGO’s Model Shop in the Czech Republic. Construction alone took 32 builders about four months.
How big is this thing? So big that the LEGO team had to make sure the X-Wing model would be safe for Times Square given the Subway below. According to the LEGO Group, the model has a brick and steel infrastructure. Although I’d like to think they made the starfighter because they heard about a Death Star made from LEGOs, it’s really because there’s a new LEGO Star Wars cartoon show about Yoda premiering next week.
